I had the legal documents.
My family still needed the everyday answers.
We had a complex enough life that I wanted the important legal pieces in place: a trust, a will, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
But after doing that work, I realized how much my wife would still have to figure out if something happened to me.
I paid the bills. I handled the utilities and finances. We had multiple businesses, different ownership arrangements, and business partners. Who would explain what income continued, where the records were, and whom she should call?
Even something as basic as our life insurance raised practical questions: which company was it with, where was the policy, and who could help her?
The documents couldn’t explain what was in my head.
There was a whole practical side to keeping our home and family going. Our legal planning mattered, but it didn’t write down how our everyday life worked.
And some of the most important information was behind a screen. Our tax returns and business documents were on my computer. My phone received sign-in codes and held the Microsoft Authenticator app used to reach important accounts.
Knowing a file or an account existed would not be enough if nobody knew how to reach it.
Now my wife has two places to start.
“Open the safe.
Call my brother.”
The family map is in the safe. Alongside it, I keep separate device-access instructions so my family can find the important files and understand how to reach the accounts they need.
My brother knows he is the person to call. My wife knows where to begin. I’ve written down the details they would otherwise have had to piece together.
That is the relief I wanted for my own family—and why I created FCCC.
We help other families do that work.
You shouldn’t have to invent the questions, remember every category, or face a blank document on your own. We walk through the practical details with you and help turn them into a map the people you love can use.
